love this! rudolph you don't have to put on the red light...

this is hilarious (i think?) - lego civil unrest set...perfect for fascist parents worried their kids might care...

the tim minchin baby jesus song you won't be hearing on jonathan ross tomrrow night...

Being Christmas, I thought it would be fun to do a song about Jesus, but being TV, I knew it would have to be gentle. The idea was to compare him to Woody Allen (short, Jewish, philosophical, a bit hesitant), and expand into redefining his other alleged attributes using modern, popular-culture terminology.

Subsequently, Suzi [producer] and her team edited the show and everybody was happy. Suzi felt it had a nice balance of big-ticket celeb action, local talent, and a nice bit of that cheeky, iconoclastic spirit for which Jonathan is known and widely loved.

And then someone got nervous and sent the tape to ITV’s director of television, Peter Fincham.

And Peter Fincham demanded that I be cut from the show.

He did this because he’s scared of the ranty, shit-stirring, right-wing press, and of the small minority of Brits who believe they have a right to go through life protected from anything that challenges them in any way.

This is perhaps a little festive but definitely guaranteed to make you laugh out loud. I am the embarrassed angel in the middle with the gold tinsel halo. You can't really miss my little sister with her humongous wings, she definitely steals the show. The person filming is baby Jesus' mother...who amazingly managed to sleep all the way through!

holy freak that's a wave! tow-in surfing mullaghmore stylee (last monday folks)

http://vimeo.com/33652914 how disappointing it won't embed soooo worth clicking through on though...
MULLAGHMORE went for broke during a gap between two storm systems on Monday, December 12th.
Why was it so big? Because the storm was so close. Why didn't they run the Billabong Tow comp? Because storm number two was too close. Morning's perfection rolled into a stormforce afternoon but not before allowing a thrills-and-spills tow and http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifpaddle session in the teeth of the storm.
"Well what a day, it had it all, we all agree it was some of the hollowest nastiest 20ft plus barrels we have ever had out there" Said Richie Fitzgerald. "Great crew, me, Gav, Paul, Nezza, Dylan, Pete, Barry, Roo, Easkey, Jayce, Lyndon, and http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifphotogs, we all had some mental waves."
It was a brutal day in the frigid Irish waters. Casualty list included Jayce Robinson's knee, a couple of tow boards and Paul O'Kane's ski. Barry Mottershead got absolutely hosed from steep and deep whilst Fergal Smith and Tom Lowe's paddling stole the show.
"It was truly epic seeing Tom, Ferg and Dan Skaj paddle those waves from the peak." Said Mickey Smith "Next level shit."

wanna see a dude surfing the biggest wave ever surfed? yeah is the answer...

Garrett McNamara has surfed what is considered to be the biggest wave ever. The Hawaiian big wave rider caught the huge monster in Praia do Norte, Nazaré, Portugal, during the ZON North Canyon Project 2011.

The wave caught by McNamara is estimated to be about 90 feet (30 meters). Garrett was tow-in surfing with Andrew Cotton and Al Mennie when he suddenly caught this giant wave. Watch the biggest wave of all time, here.

"Everything was perfect, the weather, the waves. Cotty and I surfed two big waves of about 60 feet and then, when Garrett was ready came a canyon wave of over 90 feet. The jet ski was the best place to see him riding the biggest wave I've ever seen. It was amazing. Most people would be scared, but Garrett was controling everything in the critical part of the wave. It was an inspiring ride by an inspiring surfer", says Al Mennie.

This was not the first time that Garrett McNamara rode giant waves at Praia do Norte, which is under the influence of a phenomenon known as "Nazaré Canyon" that creates unusual giant waves.

The conditions of swell and wind direction observed on McNamara's big day were quite special. The local maritime authorities registered a wave of about 8 metres off Nazaré coast, in one of the buoys. With a WNW swell direction and a favorable wind, the canyon does the rest

"I feel so blessed and honoured to have been invited to explore this canyon and its special town. The waves here are such a mystery", says Garrett.

worst miss ever?? it's up there...

Peruvian footballer Israel Kahn has staked his claim for miss of the year - and quite possibly the miss of all time - after a howler for Alianza Atlético at the weekend.

Israel plies his trade in Peru's first division and was left red-faced after he skewed his shot horribly wide of an open goal - it really needs to be seen to be believed. After beating the offside trap the 22-year-old runs onto a perfect long ball and rounds Cienciano's goalkeeper with ease. But after doing all the hard work, needing only to slot the ball home with not a soul within several metres of him, poor Israel pulls the trigger from just outside the area - only to see his right-footed dink sail helplessly past the wrong side of the post. He even had the opposition defence walking back to the centre circle for the anticipated restart, such was the apparent formality of putting the ball in the back of the net. The shocker of a miss brings back fond memories of Venezuelan Anderson Fredrick, who found himself in similar circumstances after beating the keeper. Not content to walk the ball into the net Fredrick decided to blaze a powerful shot toward goal - only for it to sail embarrassingly high and wide.

tv presenters big break ends up a gaffe spectacular...

Channel 4 presenter Ortis Deley loses athletics anchor role: A litany of live TV gaffes has prompted C4 to scale back the host's duties...

Poor Ortis Deley - he really has been out of his depth anchoring Channel 4’s live coverage of the athletics world championships. And after five days of missed cues, mispronounced names and stilted delivery, bosses have finally “scaled back” Deley’s role. The Gadget Show host and former custodian of the CBBC broom cupboard will make way for Rick Edwards who presents E4’s reality dating show Tool Academy but was until now slated for only the graveyard shift of Channel 4’s coverage of the IAAF World Championships. Among Deley’s gaffes have been repeated mispronunciations of the names of commentators John Rawling and Rob Walker, a failure to announce ad breaks and a continual need to refer to his notes – all while in the presence of one of athletics’ living legends, four times Olympic gold medallist and eight times World Champion sprinter Michael Johnson. An interview with Lord Coe was interrupted when Johnson was forced to link to an ad break Deley had failed to spot, while the presenter has produced such self-evident gems as "It’s history in the making as Oscar Pistorius from South Africa makes history". A Channel 4 spokesperson said of the decision to relieve Deley of the anchor role: "Channel 4 is committed to developing new presenting talent and this extends to our coverage of sporting events. "Ortis Deley's role in Korea covering the world athletics has been scaled back but he will continue to be on air for the duration of the competition.

FAIL: 'goodwill' tour of China by US Uni basketball team ends in all-out brawl

as regards the 'goodwill' tour of China by US Uni Basketball team that you just heard about on Red Drive...read on & watch!
SHANGHAI — The Georgetown men’s basketball team concluded its goodwill tour of China with a scrimmage against Taiwan here on Tuesday night, a trip that was marred by a brawl during an exhibition game last week against a Chinese military team.

Hoyas Coach John Thompson III, Georgetown’s players and university officials, though, have made every effort to move beyond the enmity in the immediate aftermath of Thursday night’s melee between Georgetown and the Bayi Rockets in what orig...inally was supposed to be the second game of a two-day event billed as the “China-US Friendship Basketball Match.”

“It was a unique experience that I’m glad we did,” Thompson said of the trip after an 83-64 victory over Taiwan at a gym next to the team hotel. “Time will tell, but I do think that we will see the benefits of this trip come January, February, March.”

Organizers originally intended for the excursion to provide the team an opportunity for athletic, cultural and educational exchange in the world’s most populous country. It also was designed to promote Georgetown’s brand internationally and allow alumni and supporters of the basketball program uncommon access to players and the coaching staff.

For instance, the Hoyas contingent toured politically and historically significant sites such as the Great Wall and Tiananmen Square during their stay in China’s capital, and the entire delegation was front and center for a surprise appearance from Vice President Biden, who was in Beijing for the start of economic talks in Asia.

Biden attended the opening game of the friendship matches on Wednesday at the Olympic Sports Center and spoke to the team in its makeshift locker room before tip-off. He then sat in the first row of the stands behind the Hoyas bench with, among others, university president Jack DeGioia and Paul Tagliabue, the former NFL commissioner who attended Georgetown.

At halftime, Biden shook hands with other alumni and supporters, and he spoke briefly to fans sitting in an adjoining section behind center court on his way out of the gym. The following night Georgetown played Bayi, and the game ended with 9 minutes 32 seconds to go in a benches-clearing free-for-all that included chair throwing and full plastic water bottles hurled at the players and coaches.

The next morning, Thompson and players Jason Clark and Hollis Thompson met privately with the Rockets coach and two players for a reconciliation discussion that Georgetown officials initiated. The meeting at Beijing Capital Airport included an exchange of an autographed basketball and Thompson inviting Chinese kids to the Hoyas summer basketball camp next year.

The team arrived in Shanghai on Friday unsure of what to expect and two days later played the Liaoning Dinosaurs, who like Bayi also are part of the professional Chinese Basketball Association. The incident-free game was considerably more representative of what Thompson and his players had envisioned when they came to China, and the events of the last five days, including a youth clinic and Thompson’s instructional session with local high school coaches, are what Georgetown has been emphasizing leading up to its departure Wednesday afternoon.

“Overall the trip has been great from a basketball perspective as well as just from a cultural perspective, getting a chance to see this country and learn about this country,” Thompson said. “It’s something that is invaluable.”

no tackling from behind lads...

Kiss and tell WAG Nives Celsius, who recently published a book "In bed with Cristiano" offering a behind the scenes look at sex, footballers and their wives and girlfriends, has announced she will feature as a striker in a Croatian football league game saying: "I like to make the first moves and I have a good technique for getting to the balls." Tongue-firmly-in-cheek I'm thinking....
Yes truly she has been signed to play for Croatian team Slaven Belupo for the opening match of the season against Zagreb FC leaving local football officials looking in the rule book to find a reason to ban a female player. But Nives said she didn't care as her position was fixed, adding: "My husband was my coach. We have been practising a lot." Nives refused to say how long she would be on the pitch she might want to make it a brief appearance as I reckon that quite a few of the Zagreb FC players may wish to 'tackle her from behind.'

hacktivist group anonymous respond to FBI statement...

In the wake of the recent arrests of 16 suspected members of the hacker collective Anonymous in the US, the headless ones have issued a statement:

We recently stumbled across the following article with amazement and a certain amount of amusement. The statements made by deputy assistant FBI director Steve Chabinsky in this article clearly seem to be directed at Anonymous and Lulz Security, and we are happy to provide you with a response. You state:

“We want to send a message that chaos on the Internet is unacceptable, [even if] hackers can be believed to have social causes, it’s entirely unacceptable to break into websites and commit unlawful acts.”

Now let us be clear here, Mr. Chabinsky, while we understand that you and your colleagues may find breaking into websites unacceptable, let us tell you what WE find unacceptable:

* Governments lying to their citizens and inducing fear and terror to keep them in control by dismantling their freedom piece by piece.

* Corporations aiding and conspiring with said governments while taking advantage at the same time by collecting billions of funds for federal contracts we all know they can’t fulfil.

* Lobby conglomerates who only follow their agenda to

push the profits higher, while at the same time being deeply involved in governments around the world with the only goal to infiltrate and corrupt them enough so the status quo will never change.

These governments and corporations are our enemy. And we will continue to fight them, with all methods we have at our disposal, and that certainly includes breaking into their websites and exposing their lies.

We are not scared any more. Your threats to arrest us are meaningless to us as you cannot arrest an idea. Any attempt to do so will make your citizens more angry until they will roar in one gigantic choir.

It is our mission to help these people and there is nothing – absolutely nothing – you can possibly to do make us stop. ”The Internet has become so important to so many people that we have to ensure that the World Wide Web does not become the Wild Wild West.” Let me ask you, good sir, when was the Internet not the Wild Wild West? Do you really believe you were in control of it at any point? You were not.

That does not mean that everyone behaves like an outlaw. You see, most people do not behave like bandits if they have no reason to. We become bandits on the Internet because you have forced our hand.

The Anonymous bitchslap rings through your ears like hacktivism movements of the 90s. We’re back – and we’re not going anywhere.

Expect us.

yowzers!

wtf? check out the crazy face of crazy faces...

a back-heeled penalty? genius or disrespectful...you decide...

United Arab Emirates versus Lebanon.
In the 78th minute the UAE had a penalty and Awana Diab took responsibility for the kick. Things started normally as he began his run-up, but crazily, the number 13 spun a 180 midway towards the ball.
Then, in one of the most unsportsmanlike, arrogant, and yet truly hysterical incidents, Diab backheeled the penalty on goal. The cherry on the top arrived when, despite the spot-kick being pretty awful, the lame Lebanon keeper just watched it trickle into the net.
Afterwards some of the Lebanese team threatened to start some argy-bargy for the disrespect, but it all fizzled out fast.
Final score: UAE 6 Lebanon 2

angry with the world? why not tattoo it on your forehead...if you are an idiot that is...

Patrick Brooks, 21, has become something of an internet sensation after being photographed for a police mugshot with the words 'F*** You' emblazoned across his forehead.

While Brooks' tattoo is probably endearing him to other inmates in prison, not everyone has been quite so lucky with their choices of body art. Last year, a mugshot was released of naive radio listener David Jonathan Winkelman, with him displaying his rather unfortunate tattoo. Winkelman and his stepbrother, Richard Goddard, had the logo for hard-rock radio station KORB tattooed on their foreheads after a presenter claimed there was a six-figure sum up for grabs for anyone who did so. After hearing the offer, the gullible duo headed straight to a body artist, who etched the permanent reminder of their naivety on their faces. Staff at the radio station told the pair it was actually a practical joke when they arrived to collect their prize money, and their mistake was revealed after Winkelman was arrested on a misdemeanour charge and his mugshot made its way onto the web.

who is the worst driver in the Netherlands? eh, this guy, this guy is...no contest

A contestant on the Dutch TV show Who Is The Worst Driver In The Netherlands? has well and truly staked his claim after he ran down a TV presenter during filming for the final episode.BNN reporter and television personality Ruben Nicolai was standing to the side of a 'braking from speed test' when the contestant known as 'Pim' swerved off the tarmac and ploughed straight into both a cameraman and Nicolai himself. Luckily no-one was seriously injured in the smash which occured when Pim took his eyes off the road and ran over traffic cones. In a split-second the car left the road and headed toward the nearby crew as Pim closed his eyes and hoped for the best. Travelling In his car were two female passengers - an instructor sitting in the front seat and Pim's friend in the back. The bone-crunching accident did have one positive impact for the TV show though, with the broadcast attracting a record 1.2million viewers. After spending a night in hospital, a shaken Nicolai reassured viewers that he would make a full recovery: 'I've just a little pain in my shoulder and my foot. We all had the fright of our lives.'
Funnily enough, or perhaps unsurprisingly enough, Pim has had his licence revoked :p

thanks (again)to Broadsheet.ie: Getty Images photographer Rich Lam sez:

I was covering last night’s Stanley Cup Playoffs for Getty Images when Vancouver erupted in riots after the Canucks’ Game 7 loss to the Boston Bruins. It was complete chaos. Rioters set two cars on fire and then I saw looters break the window at a neighboring department store. At that point, the riot police charged right towards us. After I stopped running, I noticed in the space behind the line of police that two people were laying in the street with the riot police and a raging fire just beyond them. I knew I had captured a “moment” when I snapped the still forms against the backdrop of such chaos but it wasn’t until later when I returned to the rink to file my photos that my editor pointed out that the two people were not hurt, but kissing.
Either the best riot photo ever, or a cynical, staged troll. The jury is out.

meet the king of embarrassing dads....

Dale Price wears a different fancy dress costume every term day as he waves off his son, Rain, on the school bus to embarrass him.

The stay-at-home father has used 170 different outfits so far and once even sat on a toilet outside the house with his shorts round his ankles reading a paper. On other occasions, Mr Price has squeezed his burly body into mermaid, Wonder Woman, Batgirl and bridal fancy dress. Mr Price and his wife, Rochelle, first waved their 16-year-old son off last August – dressed normally – to embarrass him when the school bus stopped outside their house in American Fork, Utah.

When he overheard Rain saying: ‘Mum, don’t let dad go out there again’, he took it as a challenge and decided to up the ante. The next day he appeared in a San Diego Chargers American football kit.‘When he did it the first day I was in shock,’ said Rain. ‘You don’t want to see your dad dressing up in a wedding dress, waving at you on the bus.’ Mr Price said: ‘I hope this lives with him for the rest of his life.’

giving life to the expression: dance like no-one is watching!

"Rumour has it this entertaining character is from Lativa. He appears out of nowhere and dances with the nearest building. Dublin has a history of street characters from Zozimus to Bang Bang and on into the 21st century. This guy gets hassle from a few gurriers at times but the majority of people accept him. He gives life to the expression "dance like there's no one watching....""

ken to barbie: it's over...

#Barbie: You might have heard the breaking news already – Ken and Barbie have split up over her unappealing deforestation habits. Ken made the announcement very public, placing a banner onto the Mattel’s headquarter in Los Angeles, after finding out that Barbie’s packaging contained timber products from Indonesian rainforests, produced by Asia Pulp and paper (APP), the “notorious destroyer of Indonesia’s dwindling natural forest”. Barbie, Greenpeace knows that “life in plastic is fantastic”, but what about making it also sustainable?

soothing head candy...the arctic light

The Arctic Light from TSO Photography on Vimeo.

From the dude who shot this: This was filmed between 29th April and 10th May 2011 in the Arctic, on the archipelago Lofoten in Norway.

My favorite natural phenomenon is one I do not even know the name of, even after talking to meteorologists and astrophysicists I am none the wiser. What I am talking about I have decided to call The Arctic Light and it is a natural phenomenon occurring 2-4 weeks before you can see the Midnight Sun.
The Sunset and Sunrise are connected in one magnificent show of color and light lasting from 8 to 12 hours. The sun is barely going below the horizon before coming up again. This is the most colorful light that I know, and the main reason I have been going up there for the last 4 years, at the exact same time of year, to photograph. Based on previous experience, I knew this was going to be a very difficult trip. Having lost a couple of cameras and some other equipment up there before, it was crucial to bring an extra set of everything. I also
made sure I had plenty of time in case something went wrong. If you can imagine roping down mountain cliffs, or jumping around on slippery rocks covered in seaweed with 2 tripods, a rail, a controller, camera, lenses, filters and rigging for 4-5 hour long sequences at a time, and then having to calculate the rise and fall of the tides in order to capture the essence - it all prved bit of a challenge.

And almost as if planned, the trip would turn out to become very
difficult indeed. I had numerous setbacks including: airline lost my
luggage, struggling to swim ashore after falling into the Arctic sea: twice, breaking lenses, filters, tripod, computer, losing the whole dolly rig and controller into the sea, and even falling off a rather tall rock and ending
up in the hospital. As much as I wanted to give up, the best way Out is
always “Through”. I am glad I stuck it through though because there were some amazing sunrises waiting. At 1:06 you see a single scene from day to night to day.

I asked the very talented Marika Takeuchi to specifically compose and
perform a song for this movie, and what she came up with is absolutely remarkable. Thank you very much Marika!

brian mcfaddzer brings his new lay-dee to syd-nee...paps have a feckin field day

OK so Brian McFaddzer brought his new girly to Sydney...the Daily Mail went to town...

He must have been heartbroken when pictures emerged of ex-girlfriend Delta Goodrem and rumoured new boyfriend Nick Jonas earlier this month. But now Brian McFadden appears to have put any feelings he may have had about his former relationship behind him by stepping out with his new girlfriend, the Irish reality TV star Vogue Williams.

The pair were photographed looking happy and loved-up as they made their way through Sydney Airport after arriving in Australia, where Brian is a judge on Australia's Got Talent.

Vogue, a DJ who shot to fame after starring in reality show called Fade Street, the Irish equivalent of The Hills, looked stunning in a simple yet stylish white shirt and blue jeans combination, teamed with a pair of brown wedge boots as she pulled along her suitcase. Asked if she was enjoying Australia, Vogue told The Sunday Telegraph: 'I'm loving it here. It’s great and I'm seeing little bits of Australia.' Meanwhile, Brian, who has two children with reality TV star Kerry Katona, looked trendy in jeans, denim shirt and pair of aviator sunglasses.

Brian and Vogue were first romantically linked on 29th April when the former Westlife star watched Vogue's set at a nightclub in Donegal, Ireland. And the DJ bears a striking resemblance to the star's former wife-to-be Delta. It was reported that after their night out, the pair checked into a local hotel for the evening.

Brian split from fiancée Delta at the beginning of April, when the pair announced their mutual separation ending their engagement.

After the break-up, Brian posted on his Twitter page: 'I love Delta and always will. She is one of God's living angels. 'I thank her for giving me the best years of my life. Please give us time x’

And, after seeing pictures of Delta and Nick Jonas out earlier this month, Brian said he was happy for his ex-girlfriend. He said: 'She looks happy. If she's happy, I don't mind. But there's a warning from me: If anyone hurts her they're dead.'

Vogue is a big star in her native Ireland thanks to her role in RTE reality show Fade Street, which follows a group of four girls living in Dublin. However, in a recent interview, Vogue admitted she was slightly dubious about the programme at first.

She said: 'I thought it was going to be a bit like The Hills and that made me wary. I thought I would become an easy target, being on a show like that, and I really didn't want to come across like an idiot.

'I was really worried about it at first. But then I just thought if I didn't do it I would seriously regret it. It really was a big opportunity.' And Vogue added she was very nervous about how she would come across on screen. She said: 'I was really worried about how I was going to come across but I was actually really happy with everyone's reaction. Honestly, I was just being myself. I really liked all the people I was working with.

'At the start I was a little bit uncomfortable, I mightn't have shown that on screen. Sometimes I'd go home and think "Oh my God, I've no idea what I said today", because you do forget that the cameras are on you. But it was easy towards the end.'
