SAY HELLO TO SAM MAGUIRE! THE HOMECOMING CORK 2010

MONDAY VIRAL VID - WOMAN TAKES WATERMELON HEADSHOT - FULL BLAST FULL FORCE FROM A CATAPULT...OUCH!

A US woman has become an inadvertent internet star after she catapulted a watermelon into her own face on television. A clip of the accident on reality TV show The Amazing Race has already notched up 1.3 million hits on YouTube. In the video, Claire, a home shopping network host, is trying to hit armoured knights with watermelons using a medieval-style catapult. Just before the watermelon is launched her eager coach shouts: "Right in the Kisser, show that knight who's boss." She pulls the catapult as far back as she can, but when she releases it the contraption backfires, hitting her full in the face. The watermelon explodes sending the woman flying on her back - but she appeared to be remarkably unscathed by the incident. "I can't feel my face - I have the worst headache," she complained to her game show partner Brook who replies: "You have to finish." Claire, clearly shocked, responds: "What? I can't even see straight." The Amazing Race is a reality game show in which teams of two people race around the world in competition for a top prize of $1m.

THURSDAY VIRAL VID - GHOSTS IN PUBS...WHO KNEW THEY LIKED A DRINK??

The spooky spirit appeared at 18 minutes past midnight in the Wolfe Pub in Penrith, Cumbria, hovered in the air in the deserted bar for 31 seconds and then shot off. Shocked Andrew, 38, mentioned the footage to staff at the Thomas Cook travel agents next door who said they had also captured ghostly images on their security cameras.
They believe the building was once used as a funeral parlour.
Andrew, who has run the pub for 17 years, said his Patterdale terrier dog Dudley gets scared when passing through the pub's doors.
He added: "I don't believe in ghosts but this freaked me out."
The footage from Thomas Cook, which was shot exactly a week later, shows a computer mouse move of its own accord across a desk.
The office is then bathed in a soft light as the computer monitor switches on.
Moments later a large sign falls from the shop's front window.
Andrew said of the pub CCTV: "I was with a friend and we were looking at the footage from Tuesday, September 1.
"At 18 minutes past midnight the pub was in darkness.
"I was about to turn it off when my mate spotted something strange. On the screen a glowing shape came down from the ceiling into the lounge and floated around the room.
"At one point, it looked as though it were polishing tables, it seemed to pulse and then boom, it then shot off upwards through the wall and ceiling.
"I don't believe in ghosts but this has really freaked me out. I've looked at a still of this thing as it shoots off and I'm sure that I can see a face.
"What's really strange is that something similar was going on next door.
"Our lounge area used to be part of next door, which I've been told was once an undertakers.
"They showed me their footage when I went in to tell them about the CCTV.
"There is nobody near the computer but it just comes on and the whole room starts to glow.
"Then it gets brighter and brighter and a big sign falls out of the front window. It's strange."
Amy Dryden, 22, who works in the Thomas Cook shop, said: "I have found it difficult to sleep since seeing the footage.
"It's scary. This place used to be a funeral parlour and when I go upstairs to where we keep our brochures I often get the feeling that I'm being watched.
"I was amazed when I saw the CCTV from the pub."
Andrew has been visited by a medium who said she could sense 'visitors' from the other side.
AND HERE'S ANOTHER ONE...

127 HOURS TRAILER - NEW 'GRUESOME' DANNY BOYLE MOVIE

A cinema-goer had a seizure and three others fainted after watching a gruesome amputation scene during a screening of Danny Boyle's new film 127 Hours - with one critic calling it the most shocking audience reaction since The Exorcist. Many walked out of the screening at the Toronto Film Festival rather than keep watching as James Franco cuts off his own arm with a blunt penknife. The real-life story sees the actor play climber Aron Ralston, who resorts to desperate measures after his arm becomes trapped by a boulder in a canyon in Utah. During the film's first public screening three people reportedly fainted and one person suffered a seizure. And film critics who watched the film have expressed their shock at the scenes. Kaleem Aftab from The Independent described how Boyle used computer-generated shots in the horrific scene. "He uses a blunt knife, which Boyle shows picking at the ligaments that still attach his arm to his body." "Computer-generated shots take us under the skin, where we see the blade knocking against the bone as it saws through his muscle and fat. "In a film defined by scenes of breathtaking exhilaration, it is the only scene from which viewers might wish to avert their eyes."
The Wrap's movie critic John Foote said many cinema-goers looked as if they were in shock. "I cannot remember a reaction to a film like this in a very long time, perhaps not since The Exorcist sent audiences scurrying for the doors. "At the screening, once again there were several mad dashes to the door when these scenes came on, and more than a few moviegoers were looking anywhere but at the screen. "You could clearly see people in shock, struggling to stay in their seats, working to get past the intensity of what was going on in front of them." Despite this, Boyle, Ralston and Franco received a standing ovation after the screening. The film, which is Boyle's follow-up to Slumdog Millionaire, is based on Ralston's memoir Between a Rock and a Hard Place.

NEWSREADER CAUGHT WITH HIS PANTS DOWN...WELL ACTUALLY HIS PANTS OFF....SEE FOR YOURSELF

The newscast, which has become a hit on YouTube, shows the presenter finishing reading the news. He then moves his swivel chair away from the desk to reveal that he is only wearing boxer shorts with his shirt and suit jacket. The clip is taken from the credit sequence of Slovenian programme 24UR, which is aired on commercial channel Pop TV. The newsreader and his colleague seem relaxed and unfazed by his unusual attire. Earlier this week a Norwegian radio journalist quit on the air after complaining about her job and saying she wouldn't read the day's news because "nothing important has happened" anyway. Pia Beathe Pedersen said in the live Saturday broadcast that she was "quitting and walking away" because she "wanted to be able to eat properly again and be able to breathe." She ended her nearly two-minute announcement by saying there wouldn't be any news on Saturday. The disgruntled reporter had worked at NRK for 18 months.

THURSDAY VIRAL VID - LEARN 80S FINNISH DISCO DANCING...YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO...

80s TV program from Finland. In answer to your question.. no it is not a joke.
AND JUST WHY IS DANCING IMPORTANT LADS?? WELL FROM OUR STOP THE PRESS STORY TODAY...
Scientists say they've carried out the first rigorous analysis of dance moves that make men attractive to women. The researchers say that movements associated with good dancing may be indicative of good health and reproductive potential. "When you go out to clubs people have an intuitive understanding of what makes a good and bad dancer," said co-author Dr Nick Neave, an evolutionary psychologist at Northumbria University, UK. "What we've done for the very first time is put those things together with a biometric analysis so we can actually calculate very precisely the kinds of movements people focus on and associate them with women's ratings of male dancers." Dr Neave asked young men who were not professional dancers, to dance in a laboratory to a very basic drum rhythm and their movements with 12 cameras. These movements were then converted into a computer-generated cartoon - an avatar - which women rated on a scale of one to seven. He was surprised by the results. "We thought that people's arms and legs would be really important. The kind of expressive gestures the hands [make], for example. But in fact this was not the case," he said. "We found that (women paid more attention to) the core body region: the torso, the neck, the head. It was not just the speed of the movements, it was also the variability of the movement. So someone who is twisting, bending, moving, nodding." Movements that went down terribly were twitchy and repetitive - so called "Dad dancing". Dr Neave's aim was to establish whether young men exhibited the same courtship movement rituals in night clubs as animals do in the wild. In the case of animals, these movements give information about their health, age, their reproductive potential and their hormone status. "People go to night clubs to show off and attract the opposite sex so I think it's a valid way of doing this," Dr Neave explained. "In animals, the male has to be in good physical quality to carry out these movements. We think the same is happening in humans and certainly the guys that can put these movements together are going to be young and fit and healthy." Dr Neave also took blood samples from the volunteers. Early indications from biochemical tests suggest that the men who were better dancers were also more healthy.

KARL PILKINGTON IS AN IDIOT ABROAD

First off, who is Karl Pilkington?

An Idiot Abroad (formerly known as Karl Pilkington's Seven Wonders Of The World) is an upcoming travel show on Sky1. It features Karl Pilkington travelling the globe in order to visit each of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World. During his travels Karl will visit Great Wall of China, Christ the Redeemer in Brazil, Macchu Picchu in Peru, Chichen Itza in Mexico, the Taj Mahal in India, Petra in Jordan, The Colosseum in Rome and the Great Pyramids in Egypt. Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant got the idea for this show after Karl had mentioned that he thought they were all a bit boring and had no interest in seeing them. In February 2010 Ricky Gervais stated via his blog that Karl had lost weight due to the food in India, or as Ricky put it "he shat himself thin".

And what sort of incidents did Karl have to deal with?

THE GREAT GUNS 'N' ROSES O2 FIASCO...

Deborah Long on Redfm Facebook: What a joke. We stayed to see if they would come back on and even though they did come back, we still had to leave early to get the luas. I'm out of pocket for half a gig, hotel and food and I got kicked in the face by some drunken prick who decided to take a shortcut through the seating area! Nightmare!
AND ANOTHER ANGLE...

Statement from concert promoter MCD on GNR fiasco @O2 last night:
Statement issued by Promoters MCD & the management of The O2 regarding the Guns N' Roses concert at The 02, Dublin, Wednesday 1st September 2010.
Despite every effort being made by pro...(tharr be more)moters to ensure Guns N' Roses would go on stage on time, they went on at 22.26hrs having been due to be on stage at 21.45hrs, support artist finished at 21:00hrs.
During the second song Axl requested members of crowd who were throwing plastic glass's containing unknown substances to immediately stop or he would have no option but to leave the stage. He confirmed band's wish to perform stating "we want to stay..one more bottle and we go home". Despite his continued appeals, having tried to continue performing for 22 minutes,
people continued throwing unknown substances leaving artist with no choice but to leave the stage.
From the stage MCD Promoter Denis Desmond again appealed to audience to refrain from throwing items and stated that the band would be back on stage shortly.
The artist was prevented from leaving the venue by the Promoter and following backstage discussions Guns N' Roses went back on stage at 23.20 hrs and performed their full set until 00.53 hrs.
While the artist has a long history for being late on stage (Slane 1992 - crowd waiting 2 hours and last weekend's UK Reading festival), NO artist should be subjected to missiles and unknown substances being thrown at them. However, despite this the band went back on stage after people stopped throwing items performing their full set of songs in full.
MCD and The 02 wish to apologise for any inconvenience caused due to late running of the show.
Deborah Long again: Denis Desmond promised a "brilliant show" if we stayed put. Axl just stood there singing. No crowd interaction, dancing, nothing.

WEDNESDAY VIRAL VID - FEDERER DOES A TWEENER (AHEM) OH & CHECK OUT WORST STAGEDIVE EVER...

Roger Federer Hits Another Tweener Between The Leg Shot 1st round match in US Open 2010 vs. Brian Dabul - 2nd set...
Tweener in tennis, is a trick shot which involves hitting the ball between the legs from rear to front while retrieving an offensive lob. It was invented by Argentine player Guillermo Vilas, who gave it the name "Great Willy" ("Gran Willy" in Spanish); it was also popularized by Yannick Noah and very recently by Roger Federer.

Apparently he had it in for the guy, it was almost an assassination attempt ...
